This is a very rare re-publication / edition of A CONCISE DICTIONARY OF MIDDLE ENGLISH by Mayhew and
Skeat that was originally published in 1888.  It has long been out of print or very difficult to obtain.  What
makes this edition different from other pricier editions is that every word has been carefully re-set,
thus preserving the original Middle English and Greek characters of the original publication.

This is not a scan or hastily assembled e-text or photocopy.

With over 300 pages of word entries, this dictionary covers virtually all words in the English lexicon from A. D.
1150 to 1580 and is an invaluable resource for reading Middle English literature, with all its bawdiness,
romance and reverence.  It is full of surprises.

This would make a wonderful gift for anyone interested in Medieval English life and thought, Wycliffe's Holy
Bible, Chaucer, Arthurian Legend, re-enactors (such as the Society for Creative Anachronism),
philologists, wordsmiths, and anyone interested in the origin of the English language.
